  • Pros:

    - The guns add to the dark, old environment, especially the revolver Desert Eagle and the shotguns.
    - The modded Special Infected make for some jumpscares, especially if you turn a corner and there's a Smoker.
    - The Witch's breathing sound.
    - The newspapers and notes set up an interesting story.

    Cons:

    - The darkness adds to the horror environment, but some maps, specifically Confusion and one other with the apartment complex, were extremely dark; so dark it makes the flashlights useless you hug the wall. The author probably meant for that effect, though. (-0)
    - There's one specific spot in the sewers where you unlock the door that you had to start up the generator for, and the cutscene plays. There's always a Special Infected on the other side of the door, so they beat the crap out of you while the cutscene plays. (-.5)
    - I spent a good 3 hours being lost, just running around the "open world" city area and backtracking. It'll force a player to explore the environment more, which is good, but it can also bring down the momentum of the horror and kill the mood a little.
Arrows, or directions would help cut down on the lost-ness. (-.5)
    - I wanted to get into the story a little more, but the info you get from the newspapers and notes seem to just trail off somewhere, and they didn't make sense at the end. It was interesting, and I wanted to know what forced them to leave, or why they left, what's the secret of Silent Hill? Why IS one grave filled when the other two are empty? Idk. (-0)

    Conclusion:

What makes a good horror game is environment and immersion, and this mod had it down. It was all the little things, like the guns, the darkness, the Witch breathing, and everything, that made it a memorable experience. I personally haven't played any of the actual Silent Hills (I know enough to get the gist of what's going on), but this was pretty good as a horror campaign. I wouldn't know if this was ported or made from scratch (pretty sure it's the latter), but it has so much work put into it, and it shows. The reason I could put up with being lost was because I was really interested, and I wanted to keep playing it. Luv it!
