ADVANCED INSTAL (vpk-all modes)
go to steamapps/common/left 4 dead /left4dead/addons and put vpk in.
go to steamapps\common\left 4 dead \left4dead\...find pak01_dir and make back up....then edit pak01_dir with notepad++.
*here is EXAMPLE of a re-edit ------ctrl+f for find menu
for body -- change this --

quick question im editing these things with notepad++ but everytime i change it and go in game it either crashes or it just gives me an error starting up the game... anyone know why?
Probably you made a mistake when you edited the files.
Unless you've a backup copy of "pak01_dir", You'll have to reinstall the game.
just verify integrety of cache files via Steam, this will download the new pak01 file and the game will be working again. - Properties of L4D -> Local files -> Verify Integrety of cache files.
