Death Aboard 2 is the convertion to L4D2 of the popular Death Aboard campaign for L4D. It is now set during daytime.
Final version is out! everything is in a single vpk file now.
-Perfect
-More Enjoyable than pre-bundled vALVE campaigns imo.
-Wish I could make something so good :)
-I may not have played enough, but I can't find a problem.
If there is 1 add-on map to convince people they are worth trying, this is it!
.
I've loved this map since it was first released on L4D1. It's gotten better and better since but i have one minor complaint, very minor.
THAT GOD DAMN FLY BUZZING SOUND ARGGHHHHHHHH
: Daytime
: The Angled Ship
: Large Areas
: Very Polished Level Design
: The Balloon
none worth mentioning. great job.
Conclusion:To me the daylight was one of the biggest Pros. I get that dark is creepy, but theres something to seeing whats coming at you that can be intense also. I really liked the big areas to fight in. I've been in dark, cramped, close quarters fights alot in this game, so to me this was a nice change. All the lighting and level designs I thought were great.
.
From far the best custom campaing i\'ve ever played, excellent job dude =]
The only problem i see, which is not really a problem, is that on the ship map the zombies disappear when they die, leaving no corpse behind.
Keep up the great work ^^
banner requires iframes
Works Well for Versus (I recommend all VS mapbuilders ship the map and nav files seperately)
Good polished textures and mapping (no issues with missing textures or anything like that)
Gameplay was great for both survivors AND infected
Finale has many instacap and instakill spots making it too easy for an infected win in vs.
if you are inside the lighthouse and on the roof as well (like a 2/2 combo) the commmons all spawn in the building across the walkway, or down by the beach. some more cover on the walkway or on the path up the rock to allow some infected to live to reach the lighthouse
Custom Sound issues
Overall i'm probably rating this map as is on the high side, but extra points are earned for making it truly VS capeable.
Also a progression from noon to evening would be great... the lighthouse should be dark so you can add the rotating light.
+Great Details
+Great Campaign
+Great Texture
+Great Idea
+Great Design
-Some CPU players have a hard time navigating the stage at the finale.
-Finale has Too many Special Infected.
Overall...It was a Great Campaign and a Great Idea!
Never thought it could get this GOOD!
havent ever tried the l4d1 version but this looks much better
excellent 5 levels
the final is a nightmare with a charger lol
liked the difficulty
too many lights for a "day"environement it made my pc lag alot at some times
the final on versus is broken=the points arent corect like they are on deadcity 2evileyes
apart from that really good fun!
This was really cool i really liked it no game breakers no issues had a good laugh.
the only thing i wanted to point out was the fps drop with all the lights in some parts where its already daytime.
keep up the good work!
this is version 1 beta?are you going to carry on working on it?
Good weapon selection, Good textures, Nice Maps, Very original Rescue, The campaign is very long. I like all the press the button events. Two witches in some levels.
Cons:The water in last map is buggy, and white, last map didn`t have music, In Second map, when you have to press the button to open emergency door, i try to hit it like by 10 minutes then i realised that i have to press a button in the sewers (This is very annoying).
Conclusion:One of the best Campaigns i have download it, Excellent Rescue, in my opinion i like this map more with the daylight than without it.
-Play it
-You MUST play it, so fun it's impossible to not ask your friends to play it
-It's pretty long and funny, many suprise's to get
-The map is great, it's challenging on harder level
-Extremly confusing and awesome finale, i love ballons...
-The ONLY thing i didn't like, was the DAY LIGHT, make a version on the night, evening or dawn.
Conclusion:Great map, play or you aren't a real L4D2 enjoyer!! ;D
Very well made, quite realistic, and VERY fun!
Cons:Perfect!
Conclusion:This guarantees the best campaign that is designed to Left 4 Dead 2! Love it!
-Good design.
-I like a first map.
-Good custom music.
-Good maps for hunter.
-Nice water effects.
-In some areas of water visible edge of the surface.
-The last level is practically unplayable.
-At the last level play as zombies, you spawn too far.
-Bots stupid in some places.
-Day.
-When the charger took me down, bots were no time to help me and i died.
-There's no weather effects(Rain/Night/Storm or something)
-Little maps, I like long.
I've said it all:)
- The ship map is really unique and well designed
- Absolutely love the finale. It's fun sniping zombies from the lighthouse plus it's scary how easy it is too get knocked off the lighthouse by a tank/charger.
- I liked the method of escape. Very unexpected and different.
- Not sure why but on the ship it almost feels like I'm playing the edited version of L4D2 as the zombies practically disappear as soon as they die.
Conclusion:Very well thought out campaign with some unique additions. Glad I got this one to work as it is a lot of fun to play and very challenging at the same time. Would very much like to see the night version for L4D2 but this version is great too.
All of the L4D pros listed in reviews there
Cons:Daytime, takes away the scary feel.
Can't find any others as this is just a bit modified from l4d version.
OK, but day takes the fun out of stuff.
Balloon rescue? GENIUS.
Great Map
Glad it got ported over
Weapons very well placed
Level design is great
Day time in last 2 maps
Have to have VPK and map files to play
Overall this is a great map, and will always have fun playing it and will continue to play it. Just something I did not feel comfortable mentioning in the cons, is that the map just feels too easy for left 4 dead 2. Not sure what it is, but just has that feel. Maybe it's just in L$D1 I lived on this map...
Some thigns, I'd like to see for this map; I like the idea of it being day time in the beginning, but would like to see the day time transitioning to night, so on the finale map it'd be night time. Would like to see the escape vehicle be a boat. The lighthouse light could be shining to guide it in.
Finally, thanks for bringing this over to Left 4 Dead 2, so glad it made it over here. You did a terrific job and can't wait to see how you update this map more (if there's more coming)
*Excellent pacing
*Excellent Visuals - consistently interesting
*Tons of clever and unique touches (i.e.the listing ship)
*Easy to navigate
*Tough as nails but rewarding for good teams
*Daytime makes maps even prettier
*Very hard to complete on settings above normal without a full team
*Tanks spawning at the most inopportune times can end your trip in a hurry
The seminal user-made campaign from L4D makes an appearance on L4D2 and does NOT disappoint. Even more fun the second time around. This campaign's quality is practically indistinguishable from that of a professional Valve campaign. You absolutely have to play this.
The pace was good with crescendo events fun but not overbearingly long. Good sized maps that flow well together with lots of areas to explore and find the good equipment.
Cons:A very minor nit pick - The first time we got to the garage door opener, it wasnt obvious that it wasnt powered up. Clicking on it still said "You alerted the horde", but nothing happened. We had no idea that we had to do the sewers first, but after a little stumbling around we got it.
Conclusion:Great campaign! It's nice to see someone putting a campaign together that is as good as Valve's.
-It's as amazing as it looks
-Very unique
-Near spotless
-Great Map Progression
-Needs a few touch-ups here and there
-At times, it can be a bit too hard
-Sometimes confusing to navigate
Very fun for the average gamer. Although it can be a tad tough and confusing to navigate, it's a great map. I love the part in the boat, its tripped out, plus you get to se your progression, from jail to bot, and you gt to see your next objective: the lighthouse. Finale has some bugs, but still very fun. Since this is a remake of the L4D version, and because I never had L4D for my PC, I give this map an A... err 1.... err 97!
- Nice campaign
- I like the campaign better in daylight
- Great Finale
- Beautiful and detailed world
- Perfect map in Versus
- Just such a perfect map
I don't know any cons, i think it's perfect. And please, do not convert it totally to L4D2, with gascan-finale and running-events like Voldenuit said. Keep the old nice style.
Conclusion:This campaign is currently the best one you can fins on l4dmaps.com
It's Death Aboard!
Beautiful maps survived transition to daylight well
Epic and enjoyable campaign
Skewed ship still rocks me
Gameplay has not been updated to L4D2 outside of Specials and new items (no running crescendos, no gastank finales etc)
Couldn't get custom music working (other campaigns with custom music work fine for me)
Zombie spawn areas are very far from Survivors, giving us plenty of time to shoot incoming zombies
Too many ammo dumps - part of the changes in L4D2 were to make ammo scarcer so the decision becomes whether to change weapons or keep the current one.
Finale uses Dead Center sound files (praising Jimmy Gibbs, run to the car, etc)
Seems a lot easier than in L4D1
Death Aboard is one of the all time classics on L4D1, and it's great to see it make a transition to L4D2. Unfortunately, the gameplay has not been updated, so the new weapons and items available to the Survivors can make the horde a little less challenging (although Chargers knocking you off the lighthouse offsets that somewhat). On the other hand, it is also good to see Diputs stick to his vision and not add gimmicky 'run to switch and shut off alarm' sequences everywhere, unlike some custom maps - for the record, not all the official campaigns had running crescendos, either.
Great fun and great to revisit for fans of the original.
-i love this ambiance
-il love this campaing on l4d1 too
-perfect map
-none
-none
-and none
is just a perfect map you are a profetionnal mapper ;)
(sorry for my english im french ) ^^
- Great graphics and very polished
- Great gameplay, with the new SIs even better
- Nice Setting
- Hard but very satisfying finale
- Performance is a little worse than official campaigns
- Issues with Custom Sounds (not your fault though)
- Some people seem to have problem with installation
This is just an fantastic map and the best Custom Content so far in my opinion. You get the highest rating. This campaign is Up + Running on my Server. Must Have!
great map design
lots of variance in the levels
good balance of guns
at the door with the mounted machinegun i tought it was a bug but you need to connect power first (heads up would be nice)
at the end its unclear what to do, rescue arrives but where?
some parts are really dark, but we got flashlights :p
i love it
played it 2 times complete now
really good compain
i think its beter then the standard onces
-nice atmosphere
-nice textures
-the whole campaign is great!!
-weapons are rightfully placed
-nothing at all!!
Conclusion:This map rocks!! the beach near the lighthouse was my favorite, and all the other textures are real nice. A nice campaign that will knock the bananas outta ya. WORTH YOUR DOWNLOAD.
first 2 maps its like your actually trying to escape a prison
excellent detail
awesome finale
loved the balloon escape
being ontop of the lighthouse while fighting the finale hordes, i saw coach and nick get charged off which was hilarious, love the lighthouse
car in the crate is really cool, and really creative, took me by suprise an killed me first time
none
Conclusion:this is my top favorite campain, i think this should be put up as a regular campain instead of an addon, i really like this one, nice work an excellent creativity
-Plenty of awesome Idea (The car in particular)
-The soundtrack (I genuinely stressed out in the prison, last time i was stressed like that was in dead space)
-Panorama at the finale :)
-For some reason the water use the black and purple skin(but I think it's me)
Conclusion:An awesome convertion with almost no cons . Super epic ending as a bonus.
- Great layout
- Great effects
- Great start to end
- Missing sound - Rescue arriving
Conclusion:AWSOME ... What a great campaign, I really enjoyed playing this and will I play it loads . I think much better than the L4D version as you can see all the details much clearer ... you got the lighting spot on.
Well done :)
l4d1
Cons:l4d2
Conclusion:This was one of the first campaign released for l4d1 back then and I must say definately one of the best which are superior even to official ones (I mean in l4d1. In l4d2 official capaigns are crap anyway).
Works perfectly in l4d2, the only difference is daylight which is con for someone.
Great overall quality.
Variety in the stages.
Crazy finale
The disappearing zombies on the 4th map
The command supplied in the readme broke my L4D2 and that of a friend.
It's a great map too play with friends, definitely worth downloading.
And If you're having trouble after the command just verify your game and it's all fine.
-Perfect
-More Enjoyable than pre-bundled vALVE campaigns imo.
-Wish I could make something so good :)
-I may not have played enough, but I can't find a problem.
If there is 1 add-on map to convince people they are worth trying, this is it!
Details.
Imaginative design - different from all the rest.
Great playability.
Good framerates.
The last level is a bit unrealistic in contrast to the rest.
Conclusion:Don't get me wrong - the last level is fun, but it takes a page from a more fantasy type universe.
I would make this take off some points from the score, but everything is done with such quality and imagination that I will let it slide.
Fantastic job, and I hope I see more. And ignore the low score spamming. The same reviewers are platering great campaigns with low scores, then assigning 100 points to one particular map on this site.
+ Very Detailed
+ Nice Sized Levels
+ Varied Levels that change
+ Right amount of difficulty in all parts
- None that stand out
Conclusion:I loved this map. It changes an evolves telling a story as ya go along. The levels are open instead of linear like some home made maps. It also encourages exploration in the form of treasure troves of secret weapons not on the beaten path.
Nice work overall
New type of map (hadn't seen it before)
No navegation problems with the bots
Multiple paths
Navegation worked nicely on the 4th map
Easy
Some FPS issues beggining in the third map
Bodies started desapearing in the fourth map (probably something from my PC)
The fourth map made me dizzy (xD)
Crescendos weren't creative
I don't know if its just here, but the water reflections act weird with the flashlight on
Zombies spawn annoyingly far
Finale is TOO easy
No victory song or whatever
A nice campaign, with a nice concept and nicely done maps. I STILL feel a little dizzy from the fourth map xD
The finale, however, was boring, and annoyingly easy. Out of luck, the Tank managed to kill a bot by throwing him down, but other than that, too easy.
Also, the lack of song really frustrates.
- Very Detailed.
-Very Big
-The Balloon finale was creative.
- Nice custom Sparys/skins like the custom balloon ride poster in the finale.
-Pretty Challenging, even on easy mode which I like.
- WAAAAY TOO many special infected.
-Very annoying when you get charged off a cliff and die in the finale.
-Sometimes, I fell through the floor when I am on balconies
-Sometimes, The panic event button doesn't work. You need to press it like a 100 times for it to work.
-Sometimes I got lost.
It was so much fun and very challenging. I recommend giving this campaign a try.
Great to see a real classic brought back to life!
Maps are still very fun to play and work well in L4D 2.
Daylight adds a nice touch!
Finale still very solid!
Needs a better rescue vehicle, the balloon is just silly.
Using the sound cache rebuild can sometimes mess up all the sounds from the game.
It's great to see a real classic brought back to life! Has it stood the test of time? Definitely, the maps are still very well designed and are fun to play. The new daylight adds a nice touch and the finale is still solid! That said, it really needs a better rescue vehicle because the balloon is just silly.
Very creative design. Maps flow nicely. Plenty of challenge. In vesus, there are no spots when super infected are at a disadvantage & cannot spawn. Love the ability to get high point pounces, death charges, etc. This is one of two custom maps that I play w/ regularity. Very well done!
Cons:I get my *** handed to me w/ regularity playing versus on this map. However, that is not a bad thing. I enjoy the challenge.
Conclusion:Would love to see more from this mapper.
1. Spread out uniqueness
2. Crescendos are diverse
3. Versus stats improved
6. Escape vehicle
4. Day-time
5. Major changes to areas
Since the original map is excellent, I am only going to comment on things that stood out to me or things that were different.
1. Just as the previous map, this map is unique because no two areas are exactly alike. Firstly you have a prison, then the prison yard, then the docks, then the boat, then the island hill finale. All these areas have unique approaches to both the survivors and the infected. Also, no two areas are the same. You didn't copy and paste areas and change them slightly. This makes for an excellent diverse amount of gameplay.
2. Although some would say the crescendos don't roll, I don't think it would fit well with the original intention of the map (especially will the old-time L4D players). Even though it shouldn't be about that, it doesn't need to be. The crescendos are already good enough to not need to roll. You have the simple, "Wait for the box to get down." Then you have the, "Avoid the falling car." You also have the massive area in the beginning in the prison, then in the second part of the prison yard you have to wait for the wall to go up. The best one though is when you must wait for the door to open at the end of the boat. When the spitter comes into play, it can break a team either way you play it.
3. Now that Chargers and Spitters (Jockeys are terrible/not worth mention) come into play, you can have so much more fun with versus. It seems like an infected map now where the survivors have the tight spaces in the beginning, where as nearing the end the infected have the thin open spaces to wreck a team of survivors. The previous strategy of holding up in some derelict part of the finale and gunning anything that got in your way is now destroyed. New strategies are forced onto players, something which other maps do not do.
4. I'm sure you've heard this a lot, Diputs. But I still think the whole thing should be night. It went with the theme of "Death Aboard". When I see light, I think of "The sun is still out so it's not that bad." Maybe even if it slowly went into night. Like showing the progression of the sun going down. It would make for a brilliant map 4 ending; the two gates open up and down, the sun is at the edge of the sky, representing the last breathe of the four survivors before the dark, dark, finale comes along. It would have so much meaning lol
5. This is more for the previous map, but I know when either 6.1 or 7.0 came about, the beginning area changed drastically and so did the prison yard. I thought it was fine the way it was previously, but maybe it's just personal opinion. It also gives the infected a major advantage in the beginning (charger charging someone off the ledge and killing them).
6. Some people thought the escape vehicle is lame. Seriously? That is probably the best escape vehicle ever. I remember the first time I played Death Aboard, and I couldn't find the helicopter, or the military tank, or the boat anywhere. I looked up, saw the hot air balloon in all it's glory, and the tank swiped me off the side of the map. That was probably the only time I enjoyed looking at an escape vehicle while being smashed by a tank lol
- Perfect Environment
- Incredible Detail
- Support for all game modes
- Excellent gameplay in this campaign
Absolutely nothing !
Conclusion:Very good campaign, and supported the various game modes, it is perfect !
* Good, big maps across the 2nd, 3rd and 4th maps
* Good storyline
* Unique setting
* Very detailed
* Challenging finale (I loved it)
* Unique escape vehicle (made me laugh, but in a good way)
~ Not much variety of crescendo events, considering l4d2 does have many types of crescendo events
~ Easy crescendo events (apart from finale)
~ Small 1st map
~ The music when the tank is attacking and when the rescue vehicle arrives does not play (although may be just me)
~ 2 witches in the 2nd and 3rd level (although i did mange to crown her, but still annoying)
A very clear storyline, with big maps that had loads of detail, (which was surprising as many other big map campaigns aren't detailed enough) very unique setting, and a challenging finale.
Although I found 2 witches on the same map, and worse they were wondering witches.
I recommend to anyone who likes big, long campaigns; and big challenging maps, and can hold out well in finale. Also if you or another team mate can crown witches it would help.
liked the flow of the 5 maps alot
no bugs on any mode
good items
pathethic having all those lights from the l4d1 version (no need for them its day time!!)making my fps drop
charge someone off the final cliff and survivor dosent die
A very neat campaign liked it and had fun.To make this better you need to remove all strong lights in the bright day light and tweak a few issues.
71/100
- great map layout
- good level of detail
- interesting crescendos
- VS favors infected
- finale in coop still too easy
- half of the maps should be dark
A very good port to L4D 2!
It is still a very good campaign. Especially Versus is really great because of quite a lot Charger, Spitter and Boomer spots and narrow ways.
Like some other people said I'd like to see say half of the maps with dark lighting or dawn lighting.
Great Design
Sense of scale is amazing
Finale is beast
Great lighting
Should've made it to where the Survivors had to jump from boat to boat in the docks level to get to the freighter
..Finale is also too easy!
It's a fine attempt at a map, didn't see any bugs, though. add some more detail to the lighthouse in the docks level though. And it would've been funner to jump from half-sunken boat to boat to get to the freighter. Overall it's pretty good.
the entire campaign is a pro.im glad to see diputs ported this over to 2.
Cons:pffft your kidding right
Conclusion:truly an awesome campaign ive followed this every since it was a single map on l4d1.this is definetly one of the best campaigns out.some noobs need to learn how to do these addons!down rating an awesome mod due to the fact that u cant make it work is not acceptable!
Really liked the campaign. It's a little rough around the edges, but looking back, it was really fun.
Cons:Tough finale, LOTS of places to go. But few seem to work out well.
Conclusion:One of my favorite campaigns, wish that you guys fixed up some bad looking textures and weird glitches. But I'll live with it how it is. Great work, make more!
Visually interesting.
Unusual level design on the Ship and Lighthouse.
The first two map are not on par with the last three in terms of quality and uniqueness.
The finale is too long and difficult, even on easy.
It's not clear where the rescue vehicle is supposed to land.
It's a very fun campaign with very interesting environments, especially on the last three maps. Some of the set pieces are more visually interesting than some found on the official levels. The lighthouse is a very powerful landmark on the final map, although it's unclear where the rescue vehicle is going to land, unless you've played it before. The finale is way too long compared to official maps. it's also very hard, even on easy, to get to the balloon while two tanks are chasing you, plus the horde. The first two levels are forgettable, but not bad.
Overall, I had a great time on this campaign, and it's definitely one of the best ones I've played. Awesome job!
Great design
fresh & fun
finale !
Want a night ver. like l4d1
Conclusion:I think it's the better campaign on the two left 4 dead ... best detail, gameplay etc ...
+Well made Campaign
+The Balloon Rescue is a novel idea
+The Ship section was very fun
-When the balloon arrives, the normal arrival music does not play, and it is a pain having to constantly look around to check whether the vehicle has arrived or not.
Conclusion:Very fun campaign, this deserves to be one of the featured CCs
-Use of updated graphics was awesome
-I love the daytime effect as it makes it a map worth playing over again
-Very original ending with the balloon, always loved that
-Overall clean and polished campaign
-No escape finale music for some reason (no mission complete music either)
-Unnecessary light fixtures are on outside, have them off to help with FPS even more
-Have zombies spawn closer at finale as its way too easy
-shape the beaches at finale so they look more rounded. Looking from the top of the lighthouse, it looked like the island was perfectly square and looked bad.
I've always loved this campaign, i didn't play through all of this versoin, i just tried the finale cause it looked like it was going to be good. And the graphics looked siiick i loved it. But i must've had some glitch, there was NO music after killing the 2nd tank in the finale and i had no music for the rest of the finale including credits.
I agree with other posts, to make the finale even better, make clouds gradually start filling the sky throughout the campaign. In the finale, have it drizzle as your going up the mountain, and then have a huge epic storm when you start the finale. It would be a VERY impressive ending with the storm effects.
-Good atmosphary
-Good fantasy
-Ship chapter is cool and long ;P
-Final chapter is very HARD!!
-Not so mutsh suplies
Good, cool, normaly and long. Add l4d survivors and more sulpies.NB sorry bad english
Huge maps
Nice details
Great optimization
Needs a littlle more polish
Don't understand the story: you start off in prison, to a dock, to a island.
Design and layout of maps are okay
One thing you'll notice is that the map is long and huge. So, be careful because it can wear you out, especially on harder difficulty.
One thing I don't like is the flow and layout of the map. It feels unnatural and not fun at times.
Overall, an okay campaign.
-Replay one of the first Classes L4D1 custom maps.
-Map has been changed which made the experience just a little more exciting
-The finally forces you to make ground to the escape vehicle before it arrives changing up the normal finally game play.
-Detail and map quality is great.
-All game modes are supported and the maps support there game play styles well.
-Large maps make games of versus take along time.
-Directors ability to change up the map and alter the path to the escape route seems unused.
-Day time maps.
Everyone that played in the testing really enjoyed the map play and the maps for all 4 game types. Maybe we just like the classic game play to much but all agreed that the day time maps really break the L4D1 atmosphere that made the game.
- Unique environments.
- VERY interesting terrain, especially the wrecked ship. Nothing is straightforward.
- High production values, professional feel.
- Clear narrative of where you are going and why -- never feels like you're just wandering to the next area.
- Hard enough to be played on Versus without teams reliably getting to the saferoom.
- Levels are just the right length, long enough that each one has something unique to bring to the experience without overstaying their welcome.
- Obviously designed for L4D1, a lot of places for Chargers to utterly wreck the Survivors, especially the finale. Adds difficulty to Versus, but can be very frustrating.
- Some non-intuitive crescendo events.
- Repeating rock textures on the peninsula look ugly when viewed from far away.
- A hot air balloon, while unique, is a terrible choice for an escape vehicle, and it breaks the narrative logic of the campaign.
- Who puts a hotel next to a prison?
Not perfect, but probably the best custom campaign I've played. If not for the wonky choice of escape vehicle (Why would the balloon still be in the air when you call for it? Why wouldn't it have seen your SOS on the prison roof if it was?), it would be right at home alongside the official campaigns.
a mapping buddy
as good ,or event better i would say then the l4d1 version
same fun throughout the maps
AN ABSOLUTE nightmare on the final map when u got a charger running after you
clean ,very clean level design
great ideas
cool lights
a really cool, well built and fun campaign
diputs fell in l ove with me...lol
Conclusion:The piece of work is epic,i loved it.Some campaigns are preety, but got crap gameplay but this one looks cool and is great fun.
I know players look for full finished campaigns with no issues, bugs, playable versus etc well...here you go dl this!!!have fun!
- Interesting
- Unique
- Fun
- No Cons.
- Zilch here, no error for me. :)
Conclusion:Played this map when it first was in beta for L4D1, loved it as it was my first custom map i've ever seen/played nearly a year ago. I still can't compare any other map to this one.
100% effort.
-A welcome return of an old classic.
-No issues with new content.
-No issues with supplies.
-A bit too much daylight. Perhaps have the night take over in the later maps (or have a nice sunset)?
-Lack of Uncommon Infected.
-Dead Center music doesn't really suit this map that well.
-Old Weapons are much more common than the new ones.
Nicely done! Keep up the good work!
1.) Great detail, amazing structural design.
2.) Multiple paths to safe room.
3.) Perfect amount of zombies.
4.) Excellent creativity in terms of a sense of place.
5.) Decent placement of goodies.
6.) Custom music is good and adds atmosphere.
7.) Escape Vehicle. Just. OMG.
1.) Not enough variation in crescendo events. Pretty much all of the events revolve around the "Get the switch, take a corner, and wait for the door to open" type, which gets a tad repetitive.
2.) The nighttime atmosphere from the L4D1 version is preferred over this daytime one, but just slightly. Perhaps dusk/sunset protruding into nighttime may be better.
Going to go into detail about each of the individual maps:
i. Prison
+ Great map, one with great map structure design.
+ Multiple paths towards the safe room.
- Crescendo event is too static, without much variation to it.
- Some walls are too bland, and easy to get lost in.
- A flare during daytime right at the start >.<
ii. Prison Yard
+ Decent building structures.
- This is, in my opinion, the worst map of the campaign. Easily forgettable without much landmarks or anything worth remarking.
- The yard seems like the survivors are enclosed in a box, and the fences get really repetitive.
- Again, crescendo event is really static.
iii. Docks
+ This is where the campaign really starts to shine. As it moves to a more open environment, the campaign loosens up and the detail is totally immersive.
+ What a great idea for a safe room.
+ Excellent work in detailing in and around the docks area.
- A bot had some issues in the mini sewer.
iv. Ship
+ My eyes!!! No. It's not your eyes. The ship, bent on a weird angle, is supposed to be like that. Great idea, but maybe you can make it move a bit, maybe add more shaking as the end approaches.
+ Easy to navigate despite the crazy angle.
+ A harder than expected panic event right before the mad dash to the safe room.
+ The car. Glad it's kept in the L4D2 version.
- Safe room is kind of ... unoriginal looking. =(
v. Lighthouse (finale)
+ Escape Vehicle is truly original and the best of its kind.
+ Great detail in the lighthouse spots.
- Still too easy to hold up with the advantage of the terrain.
- Takes too long for tanks and hordes to arrive as the finale is called.
- No messages showing when the escape vehicle has arrived "Rescue has arrived, etc"
- The finale's plot is rather unusual... and the escape vehicle comes from a weird angle behind some rock, making it hard to see.
Overall, this map is a blast to play, a must have and must try. Doubtlessly one of the top custom maps, even without optimizing the panic events to L4D2 gauntlet standard. Truly ingenious.
Awesome map... was the best in l4d1... and currently still the best in l4d2.
I personally like the bright atmosphere... it feels more l4d2' were as a dark atmosphere fits l4d1 more.
I always love the hard finale
Very fun to play with friends
Bots are terrible followers time to time
Bots get stuck in stairs
The ship map can be a bit glitchy
yeah custom sounds dont really want to work - but as iv heard its valves problem.
And this map feels a tad laggier then the original
all in all the map is great and hoping to see further updates added to it.
Great mapping.
Awesome escape.
Loved the map ideas.
Not many maps out there at all with this much water and i likes water.
great panic events
I got a little confused on the end part.
Conclusion:Its a great campaign. I loved the l4d 1 vs and I like this vs to
- Great campaign with perfect graphics and daytime illumination
Cons:- Lack of typical L4D2 rolling crescendos
- Too easy in coop mode
- Too many ammo and weapons
- Does not require melee weapons
In L4D1, this is one of the best add-on campaign, but in L4D2 is too easy, and offers little challenge.
This campaign does not require melee weapons and should be better adapted to the L4D2 universe.
For graphics and originality my note is 100, but regarding gameplay is 85.
-Great gameplay just like an official campaign
-Great highly polished graphics
-Levels are very nicely done and are perfect in length so it's not annoying when you die
-Even better than the L4D1 version which I didn't think was possible
-Funny escape vehicle
-There is nothing to complain about on this campaign
Conclusion:This is the BEST map I have ever played on either L4D1 or L4D2, the graphics, gameplay, look and atmosphere on this campaign are perfect, the ship level actually feels like you are in a half sunk ship. The escape vehicle at the end just capped of this truly magnificent campaign, i look forward to playing more of your work!
Exactly the same on the original death abroad. The DEATH ABROAD IS SO FAR MY FAVORITE CUSTOM CAMPAIGN.so remaking it is awesome! the new weapons also makes killing the zombies faster.
Cons:starting from the 4 to the 5 level zombies disappear after killing them. weird. and tank is also easy to defeat. just a few hits and it dies..WTF?! O.o hehe :)
Conclusion:I LIKE IT. download it if you want a good custom campaign.
good frame rate
lot's of places
perfect backround
branching paths
jockeys can cause dier actions
Conclusion:love it! love it! love it!
Just like the L4D1 version, it's really entertaining and very challenging (played it with advanced difficulty alone).
I didn't see any bugs or errors that must be fixed except for the music in the finale.
I love the Golf Club!!!
After seeing the golf club, I thought there will also be M60s around, unfortunately, there's none... I wish there was an M60 because it's the tank's worst nightmare...
No uncommon common infected... I was expecting to see fallen survivors... :)
Even though there are no M60s, I still loved the campaign and just like the L4D1 version, this is one of the best custom campaigns ever made for L4D...
- nice ideas
- nice surroundings
- good graphics
- nice rescue idea
- nice safe room in the air.
- way too long
- too many tanks on the finale
- the ship level made me dizzy :S
- a little depressing
I like the map but it took me 2 and a half hours to finish it and i ended up dying at the finale by 5 tanks.... i love the hot air balloon.
A great conversion of a great campaign from the original.
Cons:Finale really easy too much bile makes it really easy to run down.
Too many ammo piles.
The last few maps the sky is REALLY REALLY bright for some reason.
I saw the void on the skybox a bit.
This was a great map in the original and it's even better in l4d2 with the new infected and weapons.
~Lots of variation.
~High pounce spots for hunter fanatics
~Death charge/smoke/jockey potential makes for infected partytime
~Creative use of different landscapes makes this level fun from the start.
~As this map was designed for L4D1 and was brought virtually unchanged to L4D2, I feel it is unfairly biased toward infected. Survivors getting out on several levels is virtually impossible with a team of infected worth their mustard!
Great map. Fun to play on campaign and as infected. Survivors can get frustrated with some levels and inability to get out in a versus match though. An infected biased map that is still alot of fun to play!
This campaign is one of the best. I played it in L4D and now in L4D2 is much better.
I want to say that the last level is just perfect. I think it cant be better. All level are really good, but the last one is really well made.
Not something so important. But i agree with doomplayer, it is a bit too easy. Its because there is ammo and good weapons at every 10 metres. This is the only thing i can think right now :)
Conclusion:Amazing campaign, for sure it is one of the best. Really enjoyed playing it. Keep up the good work!
interesting
detailed
difficult at times
finale is very well made
not that challenging
This campaign is one of the best I've ever played
It's daylight, therefore easier to see.
Very good change of levels, espically the finale.
Hours of fun when with friends, like getting charged of the lighthouse!
The escape baloon is just awsome, as well as running down to it past dozens of zombies.
The boat level reminds me of the first MISSION in Cod4 were u turn as you move round the boat, nice touch :)
I forgot to add, the car falling out the crate took my and my friend by suprise, very very funny addition.
Uhh, i found nothing particually wrong with this map expect that after a while it got boring.
Detail more please
This is the BEST custom map I have ever played, and i've played loads now from various sites. Nice levels, easy to find weapons and the like. Even better when you have friends to play with.
- Every map in Death Aboard stands out and has great atmosphere
- Many ambush points for VS. infected
- Ship map, while lacking fallen bodies, has a unique slant to the entire map because of the angle of the wrecked vessel.
- Light tower is gorgeous
- Original finale and rescue
- Custom music adds a lot when it goes off
- Bots sometimes have issues
Conclusion:I loved this map in L4D1. At first I was a little worried the daylight version would kill it for me, but it really makes the finale stand out and come to life. I can only hope you continue to map, and are successful if this is your career path.
High quality design.
Unique escape vehicle.
Unity and variety of locations.
Inventive listing ship level.
Great pacing and pathways.
Some areas look more fantasy like than realistic
(the ceilingless prison at the spawn point of the first level and the lighthouse).
This is an inventive and solid map throughout. While each subset offeres a different feeling location, the journey from one to the next is logical. While some areas are exaggerated in design and look a bit fantastical, the experience as a whole is a joy.
Fun environment
Cons:Not particularly as challenging as the original maps
Getting bumped off ledges is not fun
Daytime atmosphere underplays the action
It's unique to play a daytime map, but the intensity of darkness leaves me wanting more.
everything, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything, everything
Cons:nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing, nothing
Conclusion:better campaign for L4D2 ! download it !
-Versus, sneaky spots and great mad design.
-Prison daytime
-Pure port from L4D
-Many ways to finish a map.
-Spitter and Charger turned boring parts into dangerous areas.
-Coop, no real difficulty because of stupid zombie bots
-Finale daytime (lighthouse looked way better at night)
-Pure port from L4D
-Way too many weapons and ammo
-It's possible to skip/survive crescendos easily by jumping onto safe spots.
Overall, it's still a port from one of the best L4D campains. But it feels a bit dull, because of the not-so-creepy daylight atmosphere, and the old crescendos where you have to sit in a corner and shoot zombies while the door opens (happens 3-4 time in this campain).
As in L4D, it's poor in coop, but the most exciting (custom ?) campaign ever made for versus.
Needs more than a simple port tough to implement L4D2 mechanics:
Reworking level design to fix instakill spots, varying crescendo events, switching between daytime/night, and fixing some cheesy spots and bugs (this is the first release anyway).
For this 1st release, it's a good campaign, not great.
- Still a great campaign.
- Weapons well placed.
- We can do base jump from the top of the lighthouse.
- Daylight is fun.
- lvl 3 : Some roofs seems to be destroyed, but it is not really well done.
- At the beginning of the lvl 4 : The boat hull disemboweled needs a bit of work.
- I don't like the finale. The lighthouse rock is not realistic.
- The safty vehicle comes from behind a little rock and it is driven by nobody. >< A plane landing on water would be more fun. :D
I like this campaign. I would prefer have differents lightning for each level. Start in the night and finish in day light for example. I hope you to published new update soon. :D
- Daytime is refreshing and a real signature style for L4D2.
- Gameplay is fantastic and one of the closest campaigns to match the quality of the official maps. As great as it was in L4D1.
- However, makes barely any use of new L4D2 gameplay in campaign/versus. While there's nothing BAD about it playing the same as on L4D1, it was still a little bit of a dissapointment. This feels more like "Death Aboard - Day" than "Death Aboard 2".
Conclusion:I kind of like this simple daytime version of Death Aboard for when you're not in the mood for a night-time campaign, but at the same time I feel it's a bit of a missed opportunity for such great maps to not use the new features. If you ever consider working on it more (though I'd love if you kept this as a "vanilla" daytime version), here's a couple of ideas I personally thought woulda been cool:
- I love the multiple routes, but blocking them off sometimes with director logic would encourage taking a different route on each play.
- Map 2's and Map 4's door-opening crescendos could be rolling ones to the safe houses.
- Map 5 could be at night in a storm like someone said (plus it does make no sense that you could use a lighthouse during the day). I also thought it could make a good Scavenge finale (the huge scope of the cliff would keep it just as epic-ly long as it already is too. Just a possibility, it's still a really strong survival finale as is.
I'm giving this a good rating as it still deserves it and hasn't aged at all, but there is a lot of missed potential here I believe too. Highly recommended to L4D2 exclusive players, but those who played it on L4D1 shouldn't expect any surprises.
starts off great with a terrific ending..Loved it the first time played. I highly recommend any dedicated server to host this one. you wont be disappointed.
I had no problems with this map playing as it should. I however, never did play the soundtrack thats included.
i kind of like the orginal sound that came with the game.
none
Conclusion:a MUST HAVE for all dedicated server host.
to the author GREAT JOB hope to see more like this one..
Stunning
Well conceived
Well Executed
A joy to play
ahhh.....ummmm.....got it.....its not an official map LOL
Conclusion:IMO and that of my friends probably the greatest L4D/2 campaign yet released, we have had the joy of following this campaign from its original birth on L4D (oh how we longed for a finale back then lol) :), now in L4D2 form, simply Stunning, the authors ideas and originality are well implemented, leaving you feeling you are playing a Valve map.
No spoilers.....but what a Finale
+Great placing for weapons and ammo
+Variety in level design
+The sign in the finale that tells where to meet the balloon
+The ship made me sick (i felt really inside a sunken ship)
+A prison that looks like an infected prison (reminded me "The Walking Dead")
-none
Conclusion:It´s the best campaign I´ve ever played!!!
- Excellent flow and variety on all 5 maps.
- Brilliant visuals (though could still be improved, see Cons).
- Finale is creative, always enjoy running down that hill.
- Good placement of weapons, zombie spawns, etc.
- Very fun in Co-op
- Great bot navigation, have never had any issues.
- Lights are on even though it is daylight (lights above doors, small lights in walls, etc)
Conclusion:Overall this deserves a 100, especially as its current vote of 87 is undervaluing this great campaign. My only gripe is the lights, while I had no performance impact, it does detract from the great visuals at times. It seems as though when you converted this from L4D1 and changed night to day, you forgot to "turn the lights off". I am nitpicking though, still a 100.
Oh and I read on another comment that this new version causes infected to dissapear through the floor of the boat. It has always done that, even in L4D1, I would guess it is because the boat is at an angle, and dead infected are not properly "connecting" with the floor on death. Fixing this would probably require putting the boat straight, or in other words, redoing that whole level... not sure that is worth it, especially as that is the reason the boat is one of the best parts of this campaign.
Thanks for the work Diputs.
This campaign is very nice
Nice escape vehicle
No maps are perfect and some things can be better on this campaign ofcourse but not many things
Conclusion:I loved this campaign on the first left 4 dead so i recommend you download it to left 4 dead 2
Same as before but daylight which looks even nicer.
Didn't mess with perfection.
Tanks in the finale seemed to climb up rather than take the long walk of death. Which made it a touch harder.
The new infected pulled us off the top of the hill plenty too which made it more interesting.
Fourth level disappearing zombies is a minor bug, we can handle the frame rates Diputs. Don't worry.
Conclusion:Just a conversion of the original campaign for L4D1, but thats no bad thing as the old version was the best campaign of L4D1, well maybe No Mercy was a little better but it has nostalgia.
As for L4D2 this is easily the best campaign, didn't really like any of the valve ones, too flat, after Dead Centre 2 it really did go south. This makes L4D2 worth loading up again. Thanks!

No offense but Yes it is you :)
