How to install Maps, Campaigns and Addons for Left 4 Dead. (PC)

  1. Download the map / campaign.
    All maps are compressed in .zip format and may need to be extracted.

  2. Double click and open the .VPK file.
    • Approve and install the selected map / campaign.
    • A confirmation box will appear letting you know the Add-on has been installed. (see below)



How to associate your .vpk files with the steam addon installer.
  • Manual Installation:
    Place the .vpk file into your L4D addons folder.
    Installation paths may differ based on your system configuration.
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\left 4 dead\left4dead\addons\

How to Play Custom Campaigns.

  1. Create a lobby as a 'Add-on Campaign / Map' and start the game!

  2. Your friends must have the same maps (and version) installed in order for you to play them multiplayer.

How to Play Custom Maps.

  1. Click 'Play Survival' from the game menu.
  2. Select ' Play with Friends'.

  3. Create a Lobby and choose campaign, survival or versus.
    • Select your map to load from Add-On Campaign option.
    • For fast play or single player select 'Local Server' as server type.
    • Create the lobby.

  4. Start the game when you are ready!
